28 VDC / 8 kW auxiliary power unit
Babilon Driver download. The 8-kW APU supplies military vehicles with power when the main engine is turned off. This compact and efficient aggregate with an 8-kW supply capacity keeps your electrical systems running while also charging batteries.
The 8-kW APU unit consists of a single-cylinder diesel engine and a permanent-magnet-excited alternator that is mounted directly on the crankshaft of the engine. Thanks to this flywheel solution, the alternator is completely maintenance free. The unit is open circuit cooled. This means that a continuous stream of air protects the alternator against overheating.
Integrated diodes adapt the voltage of the electricity generated in line with the vehicle's on-board system. What's more, thanks to the cold start device on the engine, the genset starts easily even at low temperatures. In doing so, the unit meets the most exacting environmental requirements, such as consumption and emission values. The design of the 8-kW APU is extremely compact, meaning it fits in even the smallest of installation spaces such as the battery compartment of the Leopard 2 tank.

28 VDC / 17 kW auxiliary power unit
The extremely quiet 17-kW APU impresses on account of its highly compact design, which is easy to integrate into even the smallest of installation spaces. This makes the genset ideal for supplying electrical power in military vehicles such as the Leopard 2 combat tank. Together with the water-cooled alternator, the water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine delivers an output of 17 kilowatts. The 17-kW APU can be operated with either diesel or kerosene.
The alternator—a permanent-magnet-excited synchronous machine—is mounted directly on the engine flywheel. The constant DC voltage is ensured via the APU control unit, which influences the speed of the engine. A CAN bus interface can be used to connect the electrical systems in your vehicle with the APU control unit without any problems. What's more, thanks to the electrical controller, you can keep an eye of the level of power being delivered by the genset at all times.
